Summary

This exhibition explores the history of modern graphic design, particularly since the 1990s, when desktop publishing (DTP), in which much of the data production process for publications and printed materials is carried out on a personal computer, became mainstream, and unravels design from the relationship between text and design.

The core of the exhibition will be the creations of about 50 pairs of graphic designers from Japan and abroad. The exhibition will introduce 13 themes, including "formability," "physicality," and "media," that show how Japanese graphic culture, with its distinctive use of kanji and kana, vertical and horizontal writing styles, and mixture of letters and images, has dealt with global digital information technology, what it has produced, and what possibilities it presents. Yoneyama will introduce the 13 themes, including "formability," "physicality," and "media. Yoneyama will participate in the "books" section, focusing on books by YYY PRESS.

Exhibition directors: Kiyonori Muroga (editor), Tetsuya Goto (graphic design researcher), Kensaku Kato (graphic designer)
