In the 1990s, we attempted to clarify the actual situation of labor migration to sewing companies in and around the capital city of Yangon through field surveys. I focused on how many workers in the sewing factories were from rural areas, what percentage of them were women, how they moved, and what their living and working conditions were like. This paper won the prize for the 15th anniversary of the Institute of International and Area Studies, Ritsumeikan University.
