Summary

Since his solo exhibition "elevation" in 2017, Yoshikawa has continued to observe, collect, and build an archive of images while working on various commissions and, with the exception of one book, has not focused on presentation. Yoshikawa, who first studied drawing and graphic design and then began taking photographs, pays close attention to "what the texture of the surface should be that fixes the photograph. The works in this exhibition were painstakingly selected from an archive of images he has collected over the three years since the Corona Disaster by observing the scene in front of him.

The photographs were selected from the viewpoint that they do not convey anything in terms of their captured content, but rather that they have a contemporary or continuous quality when they are fixed on a certain surface. He then attempted to determine what is conveyed by exhibiting these fixed surfaces. This act is an attempt to show the "reproducibility" that was once considered inherent to photography is becoming doubtful today, as photographs are now treated as discrete digital data and have the potential to be altered in any number of ways, and the series of images have become a migrating database. It seems to be an act of carefully investigating how photography can exist as a reality of the present, without adhering only to traditional methods or disappearing into the flow of things.

The catalog was produced as an archive of photographs selected and exhibited under the theme of "things that have a sense of modernity and continuity when properly fixed to a certain surface. The images were taken in accordance with the "whole and the detail" rule, and reconstructed into the structure of a book.
